While bestowing upon Eve Gabrielle's Right of Caste, the girls get a bit of a history lesson, and prove that history can repeat itself.

Xena: "You know, Gabrielle, you don't have to do this."
Gabrielle: "I want to do it, Xena. You gave Eve life. The least I can do is make her an Amazon Princess … Don't you want me to give her my Right of Caste?"
Xena: "I don't know. I used to think that I had to go through life alone - that anything else was a sign of weakness. So, I traded my home and family for … violence, blood - so much blood. I never want Eve to know that life. Maybe if she becomes an Amazon she'll always feel like a part of something."
Gabrielle: "She will."

Xena: "But, you're Right of Caste - that's a pretty precious gift." Gabrielle: "Xena, we're all family. I love her like my own daughter." Xena: "Well, if that's how you feel ..."

Amazon: "This deed cannot go unpunished."
Cyane: "Once we have mourned our loss, we will have our revenge. We'll kill every last one of them."

Cyane: "Xena. Gabrielle. We've been expecting you."

Xena: (seeing the body of her friend) "Yakut."

Gabrielle: "What's happened?"
Cyane: "Samnite nomads from the northern steppes raided the village. Yakut led our defense. We drove them back, but at great cost."

Yakut: (having not quite given up the ghost yet) "Xena … Xena …" *** The spirit of Yakut flings a fireball at Xena who then has a bloody image of the past.

Gabrielle: (to a dazed Xena) "Are you okay?"
